New Directions Housing Corporation

New Directions Housing Corporation, founded in 1969, serves the three-county area of Jefferson County, Kentucky, and Floyd and Clark counties in Southern Indiana.  Its nonprofit community development strategies offer excellence in much-needed housing development, and today nearly 950 families of low income live in the nonprofit’s rental housing which is managed by its mission-driven property management team.  A robust resident services strategy creatively meets resident needs and encourages progress through four youth-serving Learning Centers, three Lifelong Learning Centers, its shelter, Heverin House, one of the nation’s first established transitional shelters designed to serve single-parent families moving toward permanent housing.  The agency’s follow up program launches shelter graduates to ensure that permanent housing is attained and sustained.  In addition, New Directions delivers the region’s most comprehensive efforts in Home Ownership Preservation, including the volunteer-driven Repair Affair which annually links over 1,200 caring volunteers to older or disable home owners needing repair help.  Community Building & Organizing initiatives include The Neighborhood Roundtable, our board’s advisory group comprised of grassroots leaders and neighborhood association members.  New Directions is a member agency of Metro United Way and NeighborWorks®America.

At New Directions, we have a simple purpose: to help people find, secure and maintain the quality of their homes and neighborhoods.  We meet complex, challenging community problems, then work with partners to overcome them.  Volunteers, donors and investors work together through New Directions in many ways. Together, we build and preserve housing. We work with struggling families to convey marketable skills and capacities for increased independence. There are multiple ways for everyone to help.
