The mission of Family Scholar House is to end the cycle of poverty by giving single-parent students the support they need to earn a four-year college degree.  By transitioning student parents from poverty to self-sufficiency they are able to provide a better life for themselves and their children.  Our families are empowered through education.  We believe education is necessary to lift families permanently from the intergenerational poverty and homelessness that thwarts self-sufficiency.  Comprehensive programming is provided to meet immediate needs and the development of strategies for long-term success.  Our services include:

  • Academic advising and career support
  • Family support services
  • Peer support through campus meetings and participant activities
  • Children’s Programming
  • Financial literacy programs
  • Life Skills workshops
  • Tutoring and Mentoring
  • Residential housing and rental assistance
  • Basic needs assistance
  • Referral to other community resources as appropriate

Single-Parent Students entering our program must meet the following qualifications:

  • be single
  • have a child, children, or be pregnant
  • meet low-income housing requirements
  • have a high school diploma or GED
  • have the desire to pursue a college degree

Family Scholar House is changing lives, families and communities through education.
