Shelter Availability

Shelters continue to be full or nearly full every day of every month. The Coalition for the Homeless gathers data on available shelter beds through our Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and our Coordinated Shelter Access (CSA) team. We will analyze and summarize this data every month to demonstrate how full individual emergency overnight shelters are in Louisville.

Please note: while this data is only for Louisville individual emergency overnight shelters, there is always a waitlist each week for emergency family shelter in Louisville, though the Winter Shelter Program established in 2021 does help serve more families to keep them off the streets during cold weather.

Shelter saves lives, but housing ends homelessness. We have a shortage of both in Louisville, as is the case across the country.

Get engaged by working directly with our member agencies working to end homelessness and its causes, signing up for a presentation in your community space, or joining our advocacy efforts.
