The Cost of Housing the Homeless

The Cost of Housing the Homeless

There have been many studies recently showing that the cost of housing the chronically street homeless is actually cheaper than the cost of them living on the streets.

Using data from a study conducted by the University of Louisville Kent School of Social Work for the Coalition for the Homeless and the Louisville Metro Office of Community Services, we’ve crunched the data.

Our conclusion?

Housing is not only the most humane solution; it’s also the least costly option. For each chronically street homeless person who is housed, the city saves approximately $26,146 per year.
