Coalition for the Homeless Launches Search for Next Executive Director
Longtime ED Natalie Harris is retiring in December
Louisville, KY (August 4, 2026) — The Coalition for the Homeless has announced their search for an Executive Director. The opening is due to Natalie Harris’s announced retirement; the longtime Executive Director plans to retire at the end of the year. The organization is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven leader to guide the next chapter of its work to prevent and end homelessness here in Louisville through advocacy, education, and coordination.
Since its foundation in 1986, the Coalition for the Homeless has served as the lead advocate for Louisvillians experiencing homelessness, including as the Continuum of Care Lead. Today, the Coalition coordinates the work of more than 40 member agencies to connect thousands of individuals and families each year with services and housing.
Natalie joined the organization in 2010, where she initiated the Rx: Housing program, which combines supportive services with housing to reduce homelessness among the chronically homeless, veterans, and young adults. Under her leadership, the organization has more than tripled its staff, significantly increased programming, and advocated for improvements in local funding and legislation. Additionally, the Coalition has received new funding from private and governmental sources both, including a five-year $5 million from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund and a record-high $23 million from HUD in 2025, both of which have been distributed to partner agencies working to provide housing and services to families and individuals in need.
The Executive Director provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to advance the Coalition’s mission to prevent and end homelessness through collaboration, advocacy, systems leadership, and community partnership. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership of the organization’s programs, operations, finances, fundraising, advocacy efforts, and human resources while ensuring long-term sustainability and organizational excellence.

The next Executive Director will have the rare opportunity to lead a strong organization with measurable impact on people experiencing homelessness and the programs that assist them. This person will work across sectors to collaborate on the organization’s and the city’s priorities in response to the lack of affordable housing and the resulting homelessness crisis. Strong relationship building and collaboration skills are critical.
