Stand Down/Project Homeless Connect (Wednesday, 10/8)

Stand Down 2013On October 8, 2014, every homeless person in Louisville is invited to participate in Stand Down/Project Homeless Connect at Salvation Army, 911 S. Brook Street. This event provides access to over 80 community services including health screenings, housing applications, access to IDs, clothing, food, and job training. It’s copresented by the Coalition for the Homeless, Veterans Affairs, and Louisville Metro Government.

This year, for the first time, the event will also include foot washing. Every participant at Stand Down/Project Homeless Connect will be invited to soak their feet and have them examined by a local physician or nurse. Community volunteers have also collected new socks so that each participant can leave with healthy, clean feet.

Volunteers are still needed to help with Stand Down, both for foot washing and for escorts to help homeless people navigate the event. Many of those who have volunteered see this activity as an act of compassion. If you would like to volunteer or donate towels and socks, contact Natalie Harris at the Coalition for the Homeless at nharris@louhomeless.org and specify your involvement interest. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of the homeless!
